Parents Forever Meeting the Needs of Children when Parents Separate or Divorce Parents Forever is a 4-hour educational program for separated or divorced parents. The class is open to all parents who wish to help their children or children during this difficult time of transition. The program educates parents about the needs of their children during and after separation or divorce. Parents may choose to attend the class together or separately. Class Goals Provide parents with information to support their childrens healthy adjustment to parental separation. Help parents understand that a child needs to continue a close and supportive relationship with each parent. Reduce conflict between parents in order to support their childs well-being. Teach parents to help their children adjust to separation, divorce, and the new family structure. Develop effective communication between separated parents. Topics Covered Helping children through the divorce process. Stages of child development and reactions that might occur at various ages when parents separate. Consideration when to get help for your child. Helpful ways to communicate about divorce with your children. Stages of grief common to children going through parental separation. Tips for co-parenting. Encouraging cooperative communication with the other parents. Ways to facilitate the familys transition. The 4 hour class it taught using videos, lecture, and printed materials. There is ample time for class discussions, questions, and answers. Facilitators are licensed therapists with expertise in parental separation and divorce and its impact on children.
